Pundays: Buyers and Peter Sellers

Written by The Royal Half on .

While fans love the NHL Trading Deadline, for players, it's especially tough as they have their names tossed back and forth by every expert on Twitter in possible trade scenarios. And while it's hard on the players, it's even more difficult on the Pun Headline Writers of NHL.com who have to consistently stay on top of which player is rumored to be traded to which team. Like for instance, when Dustin Brown was rumored to be available for 15 minutes last Friday, NHL.com reacted with the lightning quick reflexes of a beat reporter who posts on Twitter.

For a while, I totally thought this headline was slang for some sexual maneuver
that Jeff Carter and Mike Richards had pulled off together.

Pundays: Gag Order

Written by The Royal Half on .

After a few week conditioning stint in the minor leagues Pundays is back! And while it does feel good to be looking at the best and worst of the NHL.com Front Page Pun Headlines again, this weeks edition kinda makes me want to gag.

Before his recent offensive outburst, the only place Sam Gagner was going was to every other team in a trade.

You really have to give credit to the Pun Headline Writing Team at NHL.com. They were really thinking outside the box on these Gagner headlines.

Pundays: Quit Stalling

Written by The Royal Half on .

What's even rarer than 3 brothers playing in the NHL at the same time? (Well, 3 brothers besides the Sutters, I guess.) 3 brothers being featured as Pun Headlines on the front page of NHL.com in the same week, that's what!

I'm not sure if this Pun Headline is about Marc Staal's return to the lineup...
or just blatant propaganda for the Russian Communist Party

This is probably the first time the words "Eric Staal" and "good"
have been used in the same sentence this season.

Not so much a Pun Headline as a direct quote from a coach that just lost most of his starting lineup.

Pundays: Morissette for the Winter Classic

Written by The Royal Half on .

It was a relaxing week down here at The Royal Half (I mean, we even missed Drew Doughty grabbing Jarret Stoll's crotch!) So this week's edition of Pundays is a little bit abbreviated... but who cares really, because this Pun Headline from the writers at NHL.com is one of the greatest ever.

"You Oughta Know" came out in 1995.
In the 1995-1996 season Jaromir Jagr had 127 points in 81 games.

Happy Winter Classic Day!

Pundays: Santa Closed

Written by The Royal Half on .

It's the most wonderful time of the year! But for some people, the holidays can bring on a horrible depression that sends them into a spiral of malaise. So even though you should be happy that hockey is back after a 2 day Holiday Vacation... I'm starting to worry about the Holiday mental state of the Pun Headline Writers at NHL.com.

Most. Depressing. Pun Headline. Ever.

Pundays: Holi-Eric Daze

Written by The Royal Half on .

It's the week before Christmas and you know what that means... Jeff Halpern doesn't care, Brian Burke isn't trading anyone and the Pun Headline Writers at NHL.com are indeed in the holiday spirit.

The headline for Versteeg's time in Philly was Kris Krumple.

This isn't as much a clever Holidays themed Pun Headline...
as it is the Penguins game plan at the center position for the remainder of the season.

Pundays: Hack Job

Written by The Royal Half on .

Hey... you know the one thing the good folks at NHL.com don't need this holiday season?

Yet another NHL rookie goalie with a totally punable last name.

That's actually not a Pun Headline...
it's just what the rest of the NHL is calling the LA Kings right now.

Pundays: Coach Wallet

Written by The Royal Half on .

My father once said to me... "You can't fire the players... but you can fire the coach." My kindergarten teacher once said to me "Royal, please don't hit so hard when you play Duck, Duck, Goose." Put those two anecdotes from my youth together... and you have quite possibly the greatest NHL.com Pun Headline of all time.

Seriously, how nervous would you be if it was your job to make sure the right name went with the right photo.

Pundays: Sid Vicious

It was a week of Thanksgiving... and you can bet for sure that the good folks at the NHL.com Pun Headline Writing Department are thankful that Sidney Crosby is back where he belongs... on the front page.

Good thing NHL.com didn't blur his mouth.

Pundays: Fowl Play

Written by The Royal Half on .

Here in America, this coming Thursday is a day of giving thanks. It's a day of reflection, when you can look back at the past year and think about what you've accomplished. It's a time to spend with family and friends, both eating food and enjoying your favorite sports on television. And if you are the Pun Headline Writers at NHL.com... it's a time to give thanks to Paul Holmgren. For without him and his crazy trades, you now know which Flyers center to focus on.
