While fans love the NHL Trading Deadline, for players, it's especially tough as they have their names tossed back and forth by every expert on Twitter in possible trade scenarios. And while it's hard on the players, it's even more difficult on the Pun Headline Writers of NHL.com who have to consistently stay on top of which player is rumored to be traded to which team. Like for instance, when Dustin Brown was rumored to be available for 15 minutes last Friday, NHL.com reacted with the lightning quick reflexes of a beat reporter who posts on Twitter.
For a while, I totally thought this headline was slang for some sexual maneuver
that Jeff Carter and Mike Richards had pulled off together.
No Trade Deadline Special is complete without taking an in-depth look at the Buyers and Sellers. And for this weeks edition of Pundays, where we take a look at the best and worst NHL.com Pun Headlines, we've assembled a comprehensive study into which NHL teams are making a play to gear up for a playoff run and which teams are calling it a season.
San Jose Sharks: BUYERS
Paving the way to be traded for Rick Nash.
With a 2-6-1 record on your 9 game road trip, I'd say you are already as low as you can go, Sharks.
Well, except for losing one of your best players, your coach getting knocked out
and your plane being grounded so you can't fly home. That could be lower.
Detroit Red Wings: BUYERS
Boy, after winning 23 straight too bad the Red Wings can't pick up a win at home this Trade Deadline.
Nashville Predators: BUYERS
The only thing Nashville should be shea-ke 'n about is Weber's upcoming contract.
Pittsburgh Penguins: BUYERS
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Pittsburgh Penguins are fine right now.
Washington Capitals: BUYERS
Alex Ovechkin's season has been all-ful.
This is the same dance every NHL GM will be doing until 3pm tomorrow.
Philadelphia Flyers: BUYERS
Cloud Five is also where Ilya Bryzgalov's GAA is right now.
Ottawa Senators: BUYERS
Erik Karlsson is having such a great season, Mike Milbury wants him to be a Calder Candidate... again.
New Jersey Devils: BUYERS
What is the source of the Devils financial problems?
Mark Fayne actually looks like he could have been in House of Pain.
Boston Bruins: BUYERS
With the way the Bruins have been playing lately,
they'll probably figure out a way to trade Rick Nash for Marc Savard.
Phoenix Coyotes: BUYERS???
With all the money he saved from re-signing Ilya Bryzgalov, Don Maloney had Mike Smith cast in gold.
Ray Whitney is so old he wants to stay far away from anything with "dead" in the title.
Chicago Blackhawks: BUYERS
The Chicago Blackhawks might be struggling...
but the Pun Headlines about the Chicago Blackhawks are firing on all cylinders.
New York Rangers: BUYERS
Pretty much what every New York Rangers fan thinks about Glen Sather trying to get Rick Nash.
Anaheim Ducks: SELLERS
Pun Headlines like this are just plain mallard-key.
This is the only teem player any GM wants at the Trade Deadline.
Minnesota Wild: SELLERS
Don't get too excited, Wild fans. These days it takes very little force to beat the Sharks.
Buffalo Sabres: SELLERS
I mean, a Derek Roy to LA Kings trade just makes Pun Headline sense.
Dallas Stars: SELLERS
As a Pacific Division fan, I hate Mike Ribeiro. But I loved his 1st star skate.
The only thing looming larger for the Stars these days was their smart decision to let Brad Richards walk.
Colorado Avalanche: SELLERS
Hey... any idea who the Colorado Avalanche might want to trade Monday?
And this weeks winner of the "Pundays Headline of the Week, Rick Nash Edition..."
It just makes sense.
