All The Kings Men - Canucks: Game 5

Written by The Royal Half on .

The only thing more surprising than the Los Angeles Kings making it to the 2nd Round is having enough energy to record a brand-new episode of All The Kings Men right after the Los Angeles Kings make it to the 2nd Round. So myself, Podcaster General Jesse CohenThe Mayor John Hoven and Matt from Life In Hockeywood took some time out from buying our Jarret Stoll jerseys online to talk about the Los Angeles Kings advancing to the 2nd Round for the first time since 2001.

The LA Kings leading scorer in the 2001 NHL playoffs with 0 goals and 9 assists in 13 games.

ARE THE LA KINGS IN THE NEXT ROUND?
NO!

I don't want to talk about it. But it looks like I'm going to be out of town for Game 5 and unable to watch the Los Angeles Kings attempt for the 2nd time to eliminate the Vancouver Canucks from the 2012 NHL Playoffs. Thankfully, I'll still be able to follow along with the game on Twitter!

Not a problem at all. I'll totally be able to feel like I'm watching the game live via Twitter. In the meantime, Jesse Cohen and I talked with Jason Kurylo from the Canucks blog, Pucked in the Head, about Game 5, what's next for the Canucks if they are eliminated and the Luongo-Schneider Debacle. Check it out here, subscribe to it on iTunes or you can listen below.

ARE THE LA KINGS IN THE NEXT ROUND?
NO!

Tonight in Los Angeles, down 3 games to none in the 1st Round of the NHL Playoffs... the Vancouver Canucks will unveil their most ultimate secret weapon...

The Daniel Sedin Hologram.

After tonights game, he'll be playing with Snoop this weekend at Coachella.

And George Lucas already has him inserted into a new version of Star Wars.

Tonight, the Los Angeles Kings have their first legitimate opportunity to advance to the 2nd Round of the NHL Playoffs since 2001. And I think you all remember 2001.

No! Not that 2001... this 2001:

2001 was so long ago that the Tupac Hologram has better resolution than this video.

In the 2001 Playoffs, the LA Kings were a 7th seed up against the big machine that was known as the 2nd seeded Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings were about to start an amazing streak of 8 straight years finishing 1st in their division and would even go on to win the Stanley Cup the next season. But after losing the first 2 games, the LA Kings roared back with 4 consecutive victories to advance to the 2nd round. Which is exactly what every sane LA Kings fan is worried the Vancouver Canucks is going to do starting tonight.

The only scientific proof that the LA Kings ever beat the Detroit Red Wings.

I haven't been emotionally equipped to deal with the Kings 3-0 lead in this series against the Canucks. So I have no idea what I'll be feeling when I'm at Staples Center tonight. This is the Kings first 3-0 lead in a playoff series ever... like ever, ever ever. And I think we all know how well the LA Kings do with an early big lead. The Canucks backs are against the wall so bad they have started the Twitter Hashtag #ReverseSweep to get their fans invested in winning this series. Even more desperate of a move than starting a Twitter Hashtag is the fact that the Vancouver Canucks are even thinking about rushing their good twin back early from a concussion... which you know... always turns out well.

This could very easily be the face of Canucks OR Kings fans tonight.

So sit back and enjoy it, friends. And if you are going to the game in LA... be sure to participate in the newest trend sweeping the nation!!!

You can download your Official The Royal Half Vancouver Canucks Dive Team Scorecard here. Print out a bunch and give them to everyone in your section... you know that you are going to use it tonight. But it may be the last time you get the chance to!!!

All The Kings Men - Canucks: Game 3

Written by The Royal Half on .

I am not emotionally prepared to write a recap yet about the Los Angeles Kings Game 3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks which gave them a 3-0 lead in a playoff series for the first time since... ever. So instead listen to myself, Podcaster General Jesse CohenThe Mayor John Hoven and Matt from Life In Hockeywood break down Game 3 and talk about what are four guys who are used to a culture of losing supposed to do now.

ARE THE LA KINGS IN THE NEXT ROUND?
NO!

The last time a Los Angeles Kings hockey team held a 2-0 lead in a playoff series it was 1968 against the Minnesota North Stars. You remember 1968, right? The first year the Los Angeles Kings were a team in the NHL!

It was so long ago they didn't even have color!

Boy... they sure fought strangely in 1967-68.

The Los Angeles Kings ended the 1967-1968 season with 72 points finishing 2nd in the newly formed West Division. You remember the West Division, right? The one with Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and St. Louis?

Wow. The expansion LA Kings scored 12 more goals than the 2011-2012 LA Kings.
In 8 less games.

The Flyers, Kings, Blues and North Stars finished in the Top 4 spots and advanced on to the playoffs. You think playoff seeding is messed up now? In 1968, the #1 played the #3 and the #2 played the #4. So that's how the Minnesota North Stars and the Los Angeles Kings met in the NHL Quarterfinals on April 4th, 1968 in Los Angeles. And I'd like to imagine it looked something like this:

Looking good, boys.

But in actuality... it probably looked something like this. Or exactly like this:

Plenty of great seats available.

The Kings won the 1st two games at home, the dropped the next two on the road at the amazing Met Center.

And in typical Los Angeles Kings fashion... after holding a dominant series lead... the Kings shit the bed and ended up losing in 7 games, culminating with a 9-5 drubbing in Game 7. Doug Robinson and Lowell McDonald tied for the lead in team scoring with 7 points each. And I imagine it all looked something like this:

Do I think the Los Angeles Kings will end up losing their 1st Round Series against the Vancouver Canucks after being up 2-0? Man, it's hard not to when history always repeats itself.

Playoff Preview Party - Dive Into Action

Written by The Royal Half on .

Let's go, Kings fans. Make us proud while on a national TV audience this Sunday at Staples Center. Because in one motion... you can rate the Vancouver Canucks' dives on a scale of 1-10 AND show them how many goals the Los Angeles Kings are going to score on Roberto Luongo Cory Schneider???

Yes.

You can download a full-size PDF version here to print out. Nothing would make me happier than this sign making it onto the NBCSN Broadcast. Make us proud, Kings fans.

(If that download link doesn't work, let me know.)

UPDATED: In typical Tim from Ironsight Design fashion... he totally one-upped me and Indiana Matt.

Winner.
