PLAYOFF PREVIEW PARTY - KNOW YOUR 3RD ROUND OPPONENT: CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS

Written by One Girl, One Puck on .

I'm currently writing this mere minutes after the Blackhawks advanced to the Western Conference Final. Why? Well, because there will never be a better time for me to write about the vile scum of the the Chicago Blackhawks. After a series of crying, diving, and just general shit bag behavior against the Red Wings, I have never felt this level of disdain for the Hawks before. Long ago (2010), I rooted like hell for that team. I wanted the city of Chicago and their fans to finally win something for a change. I loved that team with all it's Kris Versteeg-ness and drunk idiots. What a great team that was.

Over the past few years though, that temporary insanity has dwindled, and the mere mention of the Hawks right now is forcing bile up my throat. Fuck this team. I've had the pleasure of watching a Red Wings team basically expose everything a team needs to do to beat these guys. Unfortunately, the Wings came up just short, but now the defending Stanley Cup Champions will finish the job. So without further yapping, let's look at the exact way to beat the reigning President's Trophy winners (which is like a better version of the Stanley Cup anyway... right Vancouver?)

TRH 2ND ROUND PLAYOFF RECAP 7 - SAN JOSE SHARKS: GAME HEAVEN

Written by PumperNicholl on .

KINGS 2, SHARKS 1

As emotionally scarring and stress inducing this series between the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks has been, there's one quote that I've caught myself thinking about over and over again:

"This is so exciting. I wish it could go on forever." - Bob Cole

Obviously no sane person would actually want to live in a world where this series never ended, but this has been one of my favorite stretches of Kings hockey ever. However, the end of the road was here and the two teams squared off for the final time this season in a Game 7.

It was a gut wrenching 24 hours leading up to many Kings fans first experience with a Game 7. Sleep was lost, relationships were strained and work was largely ignored, but we finally made it to game time.

A grueling night was in store for both teams and their fan bases. Would the Kings quest to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions continue? Could the Sharks finally win on the road?

***SPOILER ALERT***

Best! Vine! Ever!

TRH GAME 7 - POV

Written by The Royal Half on .

There will be a lot more to come about the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks in Game 7 of the 2nd Round of the NHL Playoffs... as soon as most of Team TRH sobers up from what was an amazing experience. But in the meantime, Eric, a F'TRH (Fan of The Royal Half), sent in this video that he took last night at Staples Center... while wearing a GoPro Camera attached to his 6'6" head. Check it out below... it's a lot of fun and should give you a good sense of what it felt like to be at the first LA Kings home Game 7 since 1989.

TRH 2ND ROUND PLAYOFF RECAP 6 - SAN JOSE SHARKS: TANK'D

KINGS 1, SHARKS 2,
SURPRISED, NO ONE

It was an elimination night in San Jose for the Sharks. The Los Angeles Kings had pushed their Pacific Division foes to the brink and the teams now faced off in arguably the biggest game the rival teams had ever played.

Game 6 was the only game in the NHL on Sunday night and all eyes were on San Jose as the game potentially the meant the end of the Sharks season.
Oh for Christ's sake. This is exactly why no one takes California seriously.

TRH 2ND ROUND PLAYOFF RECAP 5 - SAN JOSE SHARKS: JUICY COUTURE

Written by PumperNicholl on .

KINGS 3, SHARKS 0

What a mess this series had become. Suspensions, injuries, controversial calls and non-calls all added up to 2-2 series with a combined 15 goals between the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks. It wasn't exactly Mark Spector's favorite kind of hockey to watch, but this series had finally escalated the two teams into rivalry level.

The consensus amongst fans from both teams was that Game 5 would most likely decide the winner of the series. Kings fans knew it would be near impossible to win in the Shark Tank down 3-2, and Sharks fans didn't like their team's chances in a potential Game 7 back in Los Angeles.

So it was make or break time for both teams.

And each team's fan base brought their loud for an epic showdown at Staples Center.

PREGAME:
 Sharks fans were ready.

Kings fans were laced up.

Darryl Sutter didn't want to win.

Hash tags still reigned supreme in San Jose.

LA still gave the Kings the best home-ice advantage in the league.

Just another Thursday night in San Jose.

And Kings fans were as optimistic as usual.
Everything was as it should be.

Ugh. Let's just get to the game already.

TRH 2ND ROUND PLAYOFF RECAP 4 - SAN JOSE SHARKS: FOUR GET

Written by PumperNicholl on .

*THE FOLLOWING BELOW IS NOT WRITTEN BY THE ROYAL HALF,
BUT RATHER PUMPERNICHOLL, OUR MASTER RECAPPER*

KINGS 2, SHARKS 2

The maddening conclusion of Games 2 and 3 left both fan bases bitter. Borderline calls by the referees had swung the momentum for opposing teams in each game and ultimately decided the outcome. Fans don't go to hockey games to watch the referees, yet they were becoming the focal point of this series.

While neither team liked what transpired, they couldn't do anything about it now. What they could do was move on and realize that things had evened up, and this was assuredly the end of any referee interference that would determine the final score.

And it was a good day heading into Game 4. Kings fans were especially excited that longtime supporter Kevin Ryder from KROQ's Kevin & Bean was going to live tweet the second period from the @LAKings official feed!

The team was 5-0 this season when a guest tweeter took over the account (3-0 with @theroyalhalf, 1-0 with @johnondrasik, and 1-0 with @wilw), so it was a great omen heading into the game.

Refs were done evening up calls and the Kings had a celebrity guest to run their Twitter account.

Nothing could ruin this!

Let's just get to the game already.
