PLAYOFF PREVIEW PARTY - KNOW YOUR 2ND ROUND OPPONENT: SAN JOSE SHARKS

Let's do this one more time shall we? So much has already been said about the Sharks, but there is something that has always been kind of creepy about them. I'm not talking creepy, like me creeping on the Red Wings in Anaheim, I'm talking sinister. I've long held firm to my belief that the Sharks are somehow doing some weird genetic experiments with their players.  Apparently those experiments create some ugly results. Lately though I've had to call some of my theories into question. For example, I have always believed that Jason Demers was some sort of mutant offspring of Ryane Clowe and Logan Couture.

Ah the good old days of Know Your Opponent

Of course this has been called into question lately because of the new nickname that Logan Couture and TJ Galiardi have given to Jason Demers.

No Jason, we will not just leave it at that!
Meg over at Battle of California was as determined as I am to figure out the truth!

I'm not gonna lie, I had no idea what the fuck he was talking about, so I googled it.

Yea I'm pretty sure Meg just got trolled.

TRH PLAYOFF RECAP - GAME 6: ST. LOUIS BLUES: 45 AND COUNTING

KINGS 2, BLUES 1

Down 2-0 in the series and facing the possibility of being put on the brink of elimination, the Los Angeles Kings had to answer back in Game 3. The atmosphere inside Staples Center was a bit reserved. Sure, the defending Stanley Cup Champions were home for the first time in the playoffs, but they were trailing in the series, their ace goaltender seemed rattled, and it just didn't seem like the team was poised for another run.

But a strange thing happened as the game progressed. Once Slava Voynov scored the game's lone goal in the 2nd period, it's almost as if the fans realized this team did still had it. The belief carried over to Game 4, where despite falling in the hole early, the Kings battled back and evened the series.

There will always be a large majority of the fanbase that will expect the worse even when things are going well. It's been engrained in our hockey DNA. Small victories on the path to ultimate heartbreak is all this franchise had known for four decades. But now, the culture is changing right before our eyes.

The Kings were no longer a team we wanted to win, they have become a team we expect to win. While this belief may just lead to more dejection for fans, it's not something people seem to be concerned about any longer.

This was never more evident than in Game 6, where it became clear that fans hadn't shown up to watch a game, they came to see the Kings win.

Let's see how it all played out:

PREGAME:

There's only one JC in this series I care about.

Renegade is ready for Game 6. Are you?

I'm sure this is the last time we see that obscene phrase.

CALIFORNICATION

Written by The Royal Half on .

3 California Hockey Teams in the 2nd Round!
Well the Anaheim Ducks sure screwed this concept up, huh?
Flags inspired by Battle of Cali.

Kings-Sharks. Round 2. In more ways than one.

Let's do this.

It's always an honor and a pleasure when Hockey Blogging Overlord Greg Wyshynski from Yahoo's Puck Daddy asks you to write a eulogy for a NHL playoff team that has been eliminated. Last year, I did one for the San Jose Sharks. This year... the St. Louis Blues. You can read it exclusively over at Puck Daddy.

This will make much more sense once you've read the eulogy.

TRH PLAYOFF RECAP GAME 5 - ST. LOUIS BLUES: PADRE JELLO

KINGS 3, BLUES 2 (OT)

Wow. What an amazing series fans are being treated to in the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Blues and Kings have battled hard in their first four games with each game being decided by a single goal. Whether you love tremendous goaltending, bone-crushing checks  or poetry-in-motion offense, this matchup has offered something for every hockey fan to love.

However, no one should be too surprised by this. After all, plenty of former players, journalists, analysts and just about every hockey mind agreed this was the series to watch:

That is, except for one scribe who has decided that being a contrarian is essential for furthering his career. We've poked fun at him because that's what we do.

But surely even he couldn't deny the beauty of this series any longer, right?!

At least Kings and Blues fans can agree on one thing.

I applaud him for standing behind his beliefs and opinions.

This is the kind of stuff you are missing out on.
Well, actually... no... this was from our article here.

And on Monday... a few hours before the LA Kings defeated the St. Louis Blues in the Game 4 of their series... I appeared on The War Room on SiriusXM's NHL Network to preview the the game. I've been on The War Room a few times and it's always fun... even if it's short.

And for the 4 of you that aren't on Twitter... our own Indiana Matt has been killing it with his now-patented Because It's The Cup Spoofs™. Here are the best of Round 1 so far:

And not to be outdone... Ironsight Design put together an amazing infographic at the start of the Kings-Blues series to help Jay Bouwmeester get accustomed to the NHL Playoffs.

TRH PLAYOFF RECAP GAME 4 - ST. LOUIS BLUES: BLUE IN THE FACE

Written by PumperNicholl on .

BUT RATHER PUMPERNICHOLL, OUR MASTER RECAPPER*

KINGS 4, BLUES 3

There's never a true consensus of how a fan base feels. No matter what day of the year, a small percentage will be content while the majority believes the sky is falling and all hope is lost.

I, for reasons unbeknownst to me, have been confident in this Kings team all year long. Losses didn't hurt, wins just meant one step closer to the the ultimate prize, and somehow that irrational belief has continued into the playoffs.

Enter Game 4 between the Los Angeles Kings and the St. Louis Blues.

Ah, Game 4s. The one Achilles heel the Lombardi Era Kings have. No, really. It's true.

Since this version of the Kings first made the playoffs in 2009-10, they have won only one Game 4 (last year against the Blues) in six chances. All while being outscored 21-12 in the process.

However these losses came against the Canucks (twice), Sharks, Coyotes and Devils, NOT against the Blues. Sure, the Blues jumped ahead in this series, but both wins came in flukey fashion. Though they completely deserved to win both games, I still wasn't scared of this team.

And based on how the Kings responded in Game 3, I don't think they are either.

Would the Game 4 curse continue to haunt the Kings? Or did they gain immunity versus Blues in this particular scenario? Let's see how it all unfolded in the fans' eyes during another raucous night in Los Angeles.

PREGAME:

OH, IT'S ON TONIGHT!

I guess it's really on?

OK IT'S ON!!!
(editor's note: click the video again to stop the insufferable loop)
(editor's second note: this explanation is going to look dumb on the Internet in six months)

Dad must be proud?
