BEST KINGS PLAYER TO EVENTUALLY RAISE THE CUP AS A RED WING:
Oh, so the Detroit Red Wings are struggling early in the season big time, huh? Man... they are struggling so much that they only have 1 less win and 1 more regulation loss in 2 less games than the current toast of the Pacific Division, the Los Angeles Kings. That must mean that Detroit's Reign of Terror in the Western Conference is over, right?
Oh... right. They still have these guys.
So far this season, the Red Wings have won 5 in a row, then lost 6 in a row, then won 4 in a row, and currently have lost 2 in a row. With 19 points they are a distant 4 points behind the Kings. But I guess when you are the best managed and best coached hockey franchise in the world... the fact that the first month and a half of this season counts as "panic time" in Detroit shows you just how ahead of every team in the NHL they really are.
Please, like Nik Lidstrom is ever going to get old.
The Detroit Red Wings are struggling SOOOO much that Nik Lidstrom only has 4 more goals and 6 more points than Drew Doughty.
Jimmy Howard is having such an awful year in goal that he only has 1 less win, a better GAA and .005 less save % than Jon Quick.
Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg have been so bad on offense that combined they only have 5 goals and 16 more points than Dustin Penner. (Okay, maybe those 2 are legitimately struggling then.) Man, Detroit fucking sucks!
Sure, it seems like the Kings have exorcised their Red Wings demons over the past 2 years, especially last season when they beat Detroit 3 out of 4 times. But then again... the Red Wings have made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs the last 2 seasons after losing in the Stanley Cup Finals to the Penguins. And the Kings haven't been to the 2nd round of the playoffs since 2001... when they beat the Red Wings. Oh come on... you know you want to see it.
So until the Red Wings are firing their coach, or have missed the playoffs for 5 straight years, or are the worst team in professional hockey, ... I'll consider them to be one of the elite teams in the NHL, thank you very much. In fact... I'd be fine if the NHL wants to move the Red Wings to the Eastern Conference before the All Star Break... because then I'll only have to see this bullshit once a season.
