Little did we know the secret to Dustin Penner's success was to pair him with Trent Hunter.
DUSTIN PENNER 1, CANADIENS 2
It was a beautiful day in Los Angeles and even though I got stuck driving behind a bus on the way to the 12:30pm Los Angeles Kings game against the Montréal Canadiens... I was glad to know that the Kings Organization is a classy one by deciding to use some local Special Needs children in their latest ad campaign.
It's never fun when an opponent with a large Los Angeles fan base that likes to wear red sweaters comes to play at Staples Center. Especially when that team is a reminder that your favorite team hasn't been anywhere close to the Stanley Cup Finals in over 18 years.
This guy is still trying to score on Patrick Roy.
Look, if I had a Chris Higgins Montreal jersey... I'd refuse to wear it in the arena too.
I guess if you love Canada... then you LOVE Canada.
But at least the Kings had all their star players ready for this game, right? Right? RIGHT?!?
I feel like the Team LA store had plenty of time to swap out this promotion before Saturday's game.
Of course, the real talk of the Kings lifeless 2-1 loss to the Montréal Canadiens was the triumphant return of Dustin Penner to the lineup. And by triumphant I mean that fans everywhere were incredibly sarcastic about him scoring his 1st goal of the season. But Dustin Penner scoring a goal wasn't even the craziest thing I saw in person all day.
With each and every loss, it gets harder and harder to defend why the LA Kings shouldn't fire Terry Murray. Since Coach Murray blew up the line combinations 3 games ago in an effort to increase the offense... the Kings have 5 goals in 3 games. So even with Trent Hunter on the 1st line for 2 of those games... they are still scoring 2 goals a game. You've gotta think that Dean Lombardi is asking himself some serious questions these days. With Mike Richards and Willie Mitchell out at least a week... Terry Murray's job might be spared until Christmas. But I'm just worried that we may never see Coach Murray win a cup in LA.
Yeah, Fox Sports West HD... I'm pretty sure Terry Murray has NEVER won a Stanley Cup.
In fact, in that series in 1997 you reference... Coach Murray is most famous for the comment he made about his own players choking.
So just so we are clear... there is no way Terry Murray has won a Stanley Cup.
And while we are at it... of those 50 playoff wins... 4 have come in the last 14 years.
(much thanks to the awesome HarleyMae for sending this to me)
Thankfully there was one thing to smile about after Saturday's game...
The Canadian Girls that were inviting Canadiens fans to ESPN Zone for the after-party.
I've never wanted to be a Montreal fan so bad in my life.
The Kings are off until Tuesday... when they take on Bruce Boudreau's Anaheim Ducks.
