So for the first time since I can remember the Los Angeles Kings are part of a national television hockey broadcast. The Kings are being featured as the Monday night exclusive game on Versus, the best cable channel named after a Pearl Jam album. And I'm especially excited about the team that the Kings are playing... the.... Minnesota Wild? Well, even if the opponent isn't the sexiest team around, at least the hundreds of Versus viewers will get a good chance to see that high-scoring Los Angeles Kings defense that so many people have been talking about.
Because nothing screams hockey like Amway.
Kings 3, Wild 2, The Midwest, Still Lame
Since Minnesota is the State of Hockey, it's great for us non-traditional fans in Los Angeles to see what all the so-called "real hockey fans" look like.
I'm excited that the Midwest has finally embraced Gay Marriage.
This is SO Midwest. On the left you've got a dude in a turtleneck with a t-shirt over it and on the right you've got the Puck Bunny who took Mike Modano's V-Card his first season in Minnesota.
I didn't realize that Minnesota had a team in the XFL.
With that patch the Wild are just asking for teams to aim for blind side hits to the head.
Despite the the game taking place in Minnesota, all the talk was about the Kings and their young up and coming team.
Peter Harrold isn't surprised at the list of US-born Kings defensemen…
he's just surprised that he's considered an NHL defenseman.
Westgarth and Handzus are trying their best to not crack up after
Stoll made a "butt-ending" joke about the sideline reporter.
"Oh yeah, I knew exactly that Kovalchuk would have been a distraction in LA.
That's why we didn't sign him in the end."
When asked by Sarah Kustok if the Kings are still missing that elite scorer, GM Demigod, Dean Lombardi, said:
"If we'd finish the chances we've had tonight we won't need an elite scorer."
God, I love my General Manager.
Of course, everyone will be talking about the Dustin Brown hit on Antti Miettinen. But what I really want to talk about is Coach Murray's reaction.
Don't make Murray angry. Please, don't.
Was it the right call? Yes. Will Brown receive an additional suspension? Probably not. In the context of game play, it was a blind side hit to the head. In the overall betterment of the league, it's not a hit that needs to carry a suspension. Besides, Indiana Matt thought Brown just wanted to leave early so he could hop on XBox 360 and play a little Halo.
I liked the way the Kings looked tonight without Doughty and Brown in their lineup. Sure they were sloppy at times, but they got the job done against a team that has always played the Kings close. But the scariest thing I saw tonight… that would be my DVR recording of the game almost running out before Jon Quick's save made the Kings victorious in the shootout... even with an additional 30 minutes of recording added on. (This ain't my first rodeo, thank you.)
By the skin of how ever many teeth Kopitar has left.
Jack Johnson played 29 minutes tonight. Jon Quick has a 1.95 goals against average and is 5-1. Anze Kopitar has 6 points in the last 5 games. The Kings are 2nd in the Western Conference. Holy fuckin' shit.
