The Boston Claw
Special teams win games in the New NHL. And Elite NHL teams... win with special teams. So when you see the Los Angeles Kings score 2 goals in a game on the Power Play (and not even have Ilya Kovalchuk on their team yet!)... it's a great thing. Don't let their now 7 game losing streak fool you... the Boston Bruins are a good team and a much worthier opponent for the Kings than Toronto or Columbus. But tonight, the Kings were just better in the battle of USA Olympic Backup Goalies!

Kings 3, Bruins 2, Ryan Miller #1
Sure, you might have been excited about another multi-point night from Anze Kopitar or even his Forsberg-esque shootout goal. But the real star of tonights Kings-Bruins game was behind the bench.
Half Season Ticket Holder Buddy made a rare visit to the Eastside of Los Angeles today so we could watch the game together in glorious HD. And I think he summed up the 2 gentlemen who sat behind Claude Julien waving their foam bear claws all night with this statement... "Oh my god... those are like... adult men doing that!"

The Claw was certainly the talk of the game tonight.

"Ha-ha. Claws funny! Brownie like."

"Run!! The Claw already got me! Save yourselves!!!"
Is it just me... or does this woman look EXACTLY like Claude Julien?

The only thing more distracting behind the bench tonight than the Giant Foam Claw were the great amount of Kings fans who had seats right behind their favorite Los Angeles based hockey team. The Kings AHL team is located in New Hampshire... so it wouldn't be too crazy to drive the hour from Manchester to Boston, drop $100+ dollars on a front row ticket... and then spend the entire fucking game on your phone texting.

Damn! No new texts.

Damn.. still no new texts!

Oh! A new text! Damnit, it's a bill reminder from AT&T.
Tonight, as part of its ever evolving telecast... Fox Sports West HD unveiled a brand new feature. Storytime with Bob Miller!

I love Bob Miller. I think he's one of the best at calling a hockey game and I think he's the 2nd best LA play by play announcer of all time, only behind Vin Scully and my complete hatred of all things basketball. But as a storyteller... he kinda reminds me of Gilbert Gottfried's Groucho Marx impression from the Howard Stern Show.

I think Life in Hockeywood was the first to make the connection... but man, does Anze Kopitar look like Frankenberry or what?. But does Frankenberry have 9 points in his last 5 games? I didn't think so.
The Kings are playing the New Jersey Devils tomorrow at 2pm? WTF? That's one heck of a road trip! Sure the Kings have won 5 in a row and 7 of their last 8. But now they have to play the 2nd best team in Eastern Conference? The Kings have beaten the Washington Capitals, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres... better known as the Eastern Trifecta. So could they possibly knock off the 4 best teams in the East tomorrow in New Jersey?
