Back at the old blog, we used to have a thing called "tags." And one of my favorite tags was "Coach Murray's Line Combinations of Fun™!" And on Monday night against the San Jose Sharks... Coach Murray opened up a can of line changing whoop-ass on his Los Angeles Kings. I just wish there was some way to graphically show the new line combos.
Worst episode of The Brady Bunch ever!
Just imagine Scott Parse's disappointment when he finally gets the chance to skate on the first line... and it's with Alexander Frolov. So Coach Murray shook his team up in order to find some offense... and who scores the lone goal for the Kings against the Sharks?
Why, it's Randy Jones of course!
Kings 1, Sharks 2, Line Combos 0
The frustrating thing is that the Kings haven't been playing all that horrible. In the Detroit game and in this game against San Jose... they were beat by great goaltending. In addition to playing pick-up sticks with his line combos, Coach Murray made the bold choice to give backup goaltender Erik Ersberg the start against the Sharks. And that move made this man the happiest person in Staples Center.
Is it me or is Jon Quick getting younger the longer his hair gets?
Obviously Coach Murray wasn't familiar with the Swedish Goaltender Method of using the first half of the season as Training Camp. Erik Ersberg has taken 45 games to work out the kinks in his game and has now regained
the trust of Coach Murray. Ersberg had a great game against the Sharks and if the Kings can keep a little bit of the workload off of Jon Quick... they just might be able to hold onto a playoff spot.
Jon Quick has weird hair or is wearing a black headband?
So Thursday night, the "Homestand to End All Homestand
" continues against the Anaheim Ducks. Can you believe this is only the 2nd time the Kings have played their cross-freeway
rivals? Why couldn't the Kings have played more of their 6 games against the Ducks when Anaheim was in last place in the West? Instead they face a Ducks team that has now won 5 straight... and don't look now King fans... but the Ducks are 4 points behind the Kings.
The Royal Half will be in attendance Thursday night to check out the Kings even more brand new line combos:
If the Kings can't figure out how to score... you might see Half Season Ticket Holder Buddy out there on the 2nd line by the 3rd period. Oh man! That means he'd have to skate with Frolov. That sucks!
