My friend Matt has decided to create a Los Angeles Bucket List for 2010 in an effort to experience Los Angeles in ways he has not since he moved out here from Indiana. And since Matt and I have worked together for most of the past 2 years... his appreciation of the game of ice hockey has grown... since I never stop talking about it. So when Matt came to me and said "Hey, The Royal Half... I want to see an LA Kings game"... I figured I'd take him to go see the Kings play the San Jose Sharks Tuesday night at Staples Center. I mean... what's the worse that could go wrong?
Kings 1, Sharks 5
So Matt had seen "professional" ice hockey before, catching an Indianapolis Ice game while growing up. What's that? You're not familiar with the Indy Ice?
Yes, that's a logo for a professional team.
Not to be confused with Bud Ice.
While we are talking about Bud Ice... does anyone remember those commercials?
Oh maybe you were thinking of this Bud Ice commercial instead?
The San Jose game was not a part of my Half Season Ticket Package, so Matt found 2 seats in Section 113 off StubHub for nearly half the face value. Now, I love where I've sat for the past 7 years in Section 217... but the view from 113 was pretty impressive.
So we settled into our seats with a beer... and proceeded to watch one of the worst fucking Kings games of the season. The only saving grace? We were right in the path of the ice-cleaning shovels of the Kings Ice Crew.
Things sure do look different in the 100's, huh? Matt had a great time... even though the Kings sucked it hardcore. I'm just glad Detroit lost so the Kings can hold onto a playoff spot for another day. Or at least till Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres.
In other... non-losing Kings news... the amazing blogging team at Bloguin has created an Olympic Hockey Blog that will be your one stop shop for all Olympic Hockey news and notes as we head toward the Winter Olympics in a few weeks. I'll be adding some posts to this site once the games get started but my first post is up there now, co-written with Sean over at Anyone But Detroit. Are you curious why Jon Quick was selected to the US Olympic Team instead of Craig Anderson? Then check it out here.
