During the last week and a half here in Southern California, most of the focus has been on the various professional hockey players that are in Vancouver representing their respective countries in the 2010 Winter Olympics. But what about those hockey players that aren't so Olympian in their skill level? Well, The Royal Half Investigative Team set out to discover... what do non-Olympic hockey players do during the Olympics?
This is a TRH Investigative Team report.
Find out... after the jump!
1) If you are stay-at-home, face-shot-blocking Los Angeles Kings defenseman Matt Greene... you do what any red-blooded American does once they become a successful pro athlete... you head back to your college alma-mater for 2 things... hanging on to your glory days... and getting as much college-aged action with the ladies as humanly possible.
If NBC knew Greene was this funny
then Roenick would be out of a job.
2) If you are fresh-faced, 21 year-old Swedish forward, Oscar Moller, you may have been good enough to represent your country as Captain last year in the World Junior Championships... but for the real World Championship... Moller wasn't good enough to beat out crippled Peter Forsberg to make Team Sweden.
Screw you, Forsberg.
Where are some of the Kings spending the Olympic break? Sean O’Donnell planned a trip to Hawaii, while Oscar Moller was going to stay home in Southern California and take care of his and his roommates’ Labrador puppy.
Well, McSwarley, Vice-President of The Royal Half's Paparazzi Division happened to be hanging out at the Manhattan Beach Dog Park yesterday and got this shot of Moller during a puppy training class.
Honestly... I don't know which lil' pup is cuter.
3) If you are George Parros, the Princeton-bred enforcer for the Anaheim Ducks... well... you earn $5000 for 2 hours of work at a local trade show.
George Parros and Half Season Ticket Holder Buddy in da house!!!!
That's right, my Los Angeles Kings Half-Season Ticket Package Partner and good friend, Half Season Ticket Holder Buddy, headed down to the Anaheim Convention Center on Monday to the PMA 2010 Trade Show with his father, who happens to be an imaging professional. When HSTHB stepped out on the convention floor... the last person he thought he'd see amongst the rows and rows of camera and imaging nerds was NHL pro, George Parros.
Parros was stationed at the HP Booth, taking photographs and signing autographs for fans. He was there for about 2 hours... sandwiched between Spiderman and Batman. What's that? Don't believe me?
And in case you really don't believe me that Spiderman was signing autographs before a professional hockey player showed up...
Of course, HSTHB hates the Anaheim Ducks and all things Ducks related... but he figured... why not get an autograph?
HSTHB asked George to sign the poster "Go Kings!" but Parros just laughed and said no. Instead, he issued a challenge to HSTHB.
"Keep the Fists Up!"
So there you have it. What Southern Californian Non-Olympic hockey players do during the Olympics. Matt Greene was busy chasing his past... Oscar Moller was busy chasing a dog's tail... and George Parros... well... the dude was making money. Who said that NHL enforcers weren't smart?
